Worship for Meetings

(words in bold print are said by all)

The Lighting of the Candle/Fire

Jesus said: “I am the light of the world”. We light this candle/fire and we welcome your light, O Christ, into our midst.”

The Sharing of Peace

Our Lord Jesus Christ said to his disciples: “Peace I leave you, my own peace I give you. Never let your hearts be troubled or afraid”.

Let us extend a hand of friendship and welcome each other in the bond of peace

(the peace is shared)

Hymn: St Patrick’s Breastplate (edited)

I bind unto myself today, the strong name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same, the three in one and one in three.

I bind unto myself today, the power of God to hold and lead,
His eye to watch, his might to stay, his ear to harken to my need.

The wisdom of my God to teach, his hand to guide, his shield to ward;
The word of God to give me speech, his heavenly host to be my guard.

I bind unto myself today, the strong name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same, the three in one and one in three.

Of whom all nature hath creation; eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
O Praise to the Lord of my salvation, salvation is of Christ the Lord

The Extinguishing of the Candle/Fire

Keep me safe, Lord, in the darkness of this night,
for the eternal kingdom, where there is flaming radiance for ever.
Amen.
